COST of the Cogmed Working Memory Training

 

 

1.     How much will the training cost?

         Total cost is $1500.

         Not covered by insurance

        Full payment due at the beginning of the Start Up Session

 

2.      What does the $1500 cover?

 

          a.     START UP SESSION

                  This meeting occurs at the office with parents and child/student, and includes: (usually 3 hours)

  • presentation about the Cogmed Working Memory

  • discussing how training helps working memory

    •     like developing muscles

    •     like learning to ride a bicycle

  • answering any questions about the program

  • discuss the “initial interview” survey

  • private interview of child/student

  • demonstrating the program to parents and child

  • parents and child have a chance to try the program

  • developing a reward system/agreements/goals

  • importance of motivation, crucial to success of training children with working memory deficits have a hard time motivating themselves when tasks are more demanding

  • routines for contact during training period

  • training environment

    • ? need for note for school/teachers for decreased work load

    • ? need to reduce other activities during training

  • mental/thinking strategies

  • for optimal working memory training

    • no verbal repeating of letters or numbers

    • no paper or pen/pencil

    • no touching of screen or key board

    • at least 30 minutes of training time

  • review checklist

  • family given the CD, installation reviewed

  • if any problems with the installation family to call or e-mail Dr. Fujimoto

 

             b.        DAILY EMAILS:

  • child/student comments about the training

  • encourage, review, and reinforce goals of training

  • parents: discuss training, concerns, questions, problems

  • discuss rewards, possible changes

  • review training so far

 

                c.     WRAP- UP SESSION

                        This will take place in the office, lasting about 30 to 60 minutes

  • review total training scores at the start and end of training

  • congratulate child/student on completing a very challenging training program for working memory

  • review initial goals of training

  • complete final rating scales (parents and child)

  • parents to have teachers complete final rating scales

  • this can be done before or after the wrap- up session

 

                  d.     RETESTING FOLLOW-UP

  • several months after the training.

  • one year after training.

 

                  e.     COST OF THE COGMED CD
